The life of Gaudioso L. Ocol, Sr. saw a series of dramatic transitions that took him from poverty to self-sufficiency to self-fulfillment. Born of a humble couple with six offspring, the young Gaudioso strove to become an educated and well-rounded individual.
From walking to his elementary classes barefoot and penniless in Virac, to working for his keep under the aegis of his foster parents in the new frontiers of Mindoro and Bataan, to studying at the University of San Carlos in Cebu and the University of the Philippines in Diliman, through the pursuit of his life-long career as a public servant, educator and engineer in Cebu, Gaudioso’s life transitions were sparkling testimonies to the achievement of success through hard work and determination.
Instilled with a strong sense of generosity and goodwill toward others, he was a man with a mission to share his blessings, especially with the less fortunate. Following more than three quarters of a century of living life to the fullest, Gaudioso made a pilgrimage back to his hometown of Virac to share his blessings with his people by founding the first technical school in the province.
The Catanduanes Institute of Technology Foundation, Incorporated (CITFI) was established in 1994 in fulfillment of one noble dream. Under the direction of Founding Chairman, Engr. Gaudioso L. Ocol, Sr., CITFI emerged as the first technical school in Catanduanes. Its mandate is to make available the quality skills necessary to meet the needs of the modern world by providing a free college education, through scholarship grants, to the less fortunate but deserving youth of the province.
Engr. Gaudioso L. Ocol, Sr. may have gone back to his creator, but his legacy to his beloved Catanduanes lives on in the heart and soul of CITFI.
